In a move to curb property speculation, NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern plans to implement restrictions on foreign property buyers, reports Business Insider (26 October 2017). Ardern will seek to renegotiate the TPP agreement on her trip to Vietnam to enable this foreign buyer ban on existing Kiwi homes. Besides that, Arderns intends to slash immigration numbers by up to 30,000. Currently, New Zealand is sixth-most favoured market for Chinese homebuyers on Chinese property portal Juwai.com. According to Juwai.com Head of Australia and New Zealand Jane Lu, Chinese property investors have shown an inclination in the past to ramp up their plans to buy overseas properties whenever new restrictions or taxes are announced.
