Even as real estate experts debate whether the BC foreign buyer tax has contributed to Seattle's housing market foreign buyer boom, the impact of Chinese buyers remains indisputable, reports The Globe and Mail (24 March 2017). While Zillow believe that the increase in Chinese buyers in Seattle was not due to spillover from the British Columbia foreign buyer tax, Juwai.com – an international Chinese property website that tracks more than 2 million Chinese users each month – refutes this. According to Charles Pittar, CEO of Juwai.com, Toronto and Seattle benefited directly from the 'Vancouver tax' – the site saw a 93.3% y-o-y increase in Chinese buyer enquiries for Seattle in September 2016, one month after the tax was introduced in BC, before peaking at 140% in November.
