The 15% foreign buyer tax in Vancouver has deterred Chinese property buyers from the area, reports The Globe and Mail (7 March 2017). According to data from Juwai.com, China's leading international real estate website, Chinese buyer enquiries for Vancouver fell 81 percent y-o-y in July 2016 and 78 percent y-o-y in August – a decline that continued through the rest of 2016. However, this decline in traffic for Vancouver has led to a rise in neighbouring Seattle in the US.
