Only 4.9% of transactions in the Toronto region were by foreign buyers, reports The Star (7 March 2017). According to a recent report from Sotheby's International Realty Canada, those foreign buyers were also looking at other property types, and weren't focused solely on luxury homes. Additionally, the report revealed that while there has been more searches and enquiries for Toronto properties, not all have been translated into more sales, The report, which was based on Juwai.com's data, also divulged that most Chinese searches are motivated by a desire to live in the area or to use the property as a base for accessing Canadian schools.
