Foreign buyer taxes in Vancouver and Toronto may help Calgary rise as the new hotspot for foreign buyers, reports MSN (8 May 2017). Calgary is comparably more affordable, and according to China's top international real estate website Juwai.com, new direct flights between China and Calgary could bring an influx of Chinese buyers as well. A joint report released in March 2017 by Juwai.com and Sotheby's International Realty Canada also revealed that unlike Chinese buyers in Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto who cite education as their main motivation, Chinese investors planning to buy in Calgary are driven by investment instead.
