Chinese buyer interest in New Zealand grew 35 percent after the foreign buyer ban was announced, reports Newshub (1 February 2018). Following the announcement by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern that foreign buyers would be banned from purchasing existing homes in New Zealand, Chinese property website Juwai.com launched a campaign to market New Zealand properties to Chinese buyers from December 2017 to February 2018. "New Zealand's proposed policy change has activated Chinese buyers who already had plans to purchase in the country, and now realise they need to act more quickly on transactions that otherwise could have taken many months," said Carrie Law, CEO of Juwai.com.
