68% of Metro Vancouverites consider foreign property buyers as a main driver of rising home prices, reports Business Vancouver (27 June 2018). Based off a survey by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. (CMHC), this 68% is the highest such in Canada, but this could be merely a perception rather than actual reality. According to the latest data from Statistics Canada, only 4.8% of Metro Vancouver homes belong to foreign homeowners, with the highest ratios in the cities of Vancouver (7.6%) and Richmond (7.5%). According to top Chinese global property platform Juwai.com, Canada's British Columbia (B.C.) imposes the highest foreign buyer taxes in the world at 20% of a home's value.
