Rising housing prices in China have made Chinese property buyers turn to cheaper markets such as Thailand, reports Reuters (1 August 2017). Chinese already make up a third of Thailand's foreign tourists and now, Thai developers are reporting a boom in mainland investors setting their eyes on Thai real estate. According to Sue Jong, COO of major Chinese international property portal Juwai.com, Thailand leapt three places to now rank as the third most enquired investment destinations for Chinese real estate investors in H1 2017. "We are also seeing a formerly underrepresented buyer appearing in larger numbers. This is the upper-middle-class Chinese buyer who can't afford property in more expensive countries," said Jong.
