Australia's early success in containing the coronavirus has made the country's passports now more powerful than those from the United States, stated an article by MSN (22 July 2020). The passport index produced by Henley and Partners ranks Australia in ninth place while under the current EU travel ban, US nationals now have roughly the same level of travel freedom as citizens of Uruguay and Mexico ranked 28th and 25th respectively. The different trajectory of the two countries could encourage further Chinese investment in Australia, according to property portal Juwai. "Green cards and passports from the United States aren't looking so good in the coronavirus era," said Juwai executive chairman Georg Chmiel, who added that Juwai has seen Chinese buying enquiries on Australian property climbed by 40.1% in the second quarter.
