Student apartments are sitting empty in Melbourne as they wait for tenants from China who have been restricted from travelling to Australia due to the coronavirus outbreak, stated a report by Domain Media (19 February 2020). There are concerns that the apartments may remain empty for the rest of the year if Chinese students don't arrive soon. However, some agents say Melbourne's property market continues to recover. There are predictions that property sales will improve further after the outbreak subsides. "Countries like Thailand, the USA, the UK, Canada and Australia, which have good healthcare systems and highly-ranked abilities to react to viral outbreaks, are likely to benefit from an increase in buyer activity," said Juwai IQI Executive Chairman Georg Chmiel.
