Chinese investors snapping up 'one chateau per month', say estate agents

By Juwai, 17 May 2013

Beginning in 2011, Chinese investors have reportedly been purchasing, on average, one Bordeaux chateau a month.

Though unclear how many of these purchased were made by Chinese buyers, it is esimated that Asian-owned properties in Bordeaux now number up to 50.

The increasing sales of Bordeaux properties has even compelled Christie's International Real Estate to launch a vineyard service targeted towards Chinese investors.

For many Chinese buyers, their focus in purchasing these properties is to supply the growing wealthy and sophisitcated Chinese population with wines. With the number of wealthy Chinese projected to reach 300 million in just 5-10 years, these investors are hoping to target this rapidly increasing group.
