It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but while you’re winding down for the festive season, we're ramping things up over here in China, where it’ll be business as usual.

This is because although Christmas is one of the most celebrated holidays in the world, that isn’t the case in China, where Christmas isn’t even a public holiday, and isn’t widely celebrated except in large megacities like Shanghai or Beijing, where it’s treated more like a mass commercial holiday.

So, the holiday season for Chinese only truly begins during the Spring Festival Golden Week, otherwise known as Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year, the most important celebration of the year for Chinese.

Today, Lunar New Year is not only the most significant holiday for Chinese, but also one of their biggest outbound travel period, as it is one of their only two opportunities to take a long break during the year.

The 2017 Chinese New Year Golden Week saw record-breaking 6.15 million Chinese travelling overseas, up 7% y-o-y.¹

More importantly, today’s Chinese are increasingly choosing to travel abroad during the Lunar New Year Golden Week^{2, 3} – and chances are high that many will include property hunting as part of their travel agenda abroad as well.  

With the 2018 Chinese New Year set to happen just two months away on 16 February next year, now would be the time for these Chinese, who are planning to travel and view properties abroad, to begin their research online on where to visit and who to meet.

So, if you’re marketing to Chinese buyers, these two months before the Lunar New Year peak travel season is a golden period for you to leverage.
