57% of wealthy Chinese are looking to emigrate abroad, and many have chosen Australia as their country of choice, says Juwai.com Co-CEO Andrew Taylor in an article for Property Observer (2 February 2012). In fact, 20% have already completed their emigration procedures or are going to. In 2010, Australia received the most immigrants from China than any other country. However, even though many Chinese have chosen to live overseas, 80% have chosen to maintain roots in China by keeping their Chinese passprts or running businesses in China. The impact of Chinese buyers on Australian real estate market is tremendous – The Financial Times reported that 20% of all properties sold in Sydney were to Chinese buyers. Most recently, an Asian investor – most possibly a Chinese – purchased the luxury penthouse of Lumiere Residences in the Sydney CBD for a whopping $8.1 million.
