Foreign investors have poured A$1 billion into Tasmanian property in 2014-15, up from merely A$30 million the year before, reports The Mercury (16 April 2016). According to Charles Pittar, CEO of Juwai.com, Chinese buyers are attracted to Tasmania thanks to its natural beauty, clean environment, and appealing lifestyle. “When you step off a plane in Tasmania, it feels like paradise to some people, compared to the congested, smoggy, heavily populated big cities of China,” said Pittar. He further added that Juwai.com has seen a huge increase in Chinese buyer interest in 2015 compared to 2014, whereby total inquiries for Tasmanian property surged 77.1 percent for the year.
