A new breed of Chinese buyers, termed as 'Chinese upgraders', have emerged in Australia, reveals News.com.au (8 October 2016). With many Chinese students staying on in Australia after graduation and starting families there, the first wave of Chinese property buyers in Australia are now selling their off-the-plan apartments for houses and terraces as they move on to their next stage in life. According to Gavin Norris, Head of Australia for Chinese real estate portal Juwai.com, there are potentially several thousands of 'Chinese upgraders' seeking to move up the property ladder. "A home to live in while studying in Australia is the biggest driver of Chinese property buying in the big capital cities like Sydney. Now that the significant Chinese investment trend has passed the half-decade mark, these buyers are starting to age out of their first purchase. Many of them have married and are starting families," said Norris.
