A recent survey shows Canada is the third-most popular investment destination for Chinese outbound travellers in 2018, reports BuzzBuzzNews (2 February 2018). The survey by Chinese real estate website Juwai.com found that 60% of Chinese travelling overseas this year also intend to purchase property in their holiday destination – 14% who selected Canada as their top pick, just behind the US (26%) and Australia (19%). According to Juwai.com CEO Carrie Law, “Chinese [investors] who are considering buying real estate or even emigrating to Canada often use their holidays to combine fun and research." Law further adds that a main reason driving Chinese buyers to Canada is due to the high cost of living in Greater China, which is home to three cities in the world's top 10 most expensive cities to live – Hong Kong (#1), Shanghai (#7), and Beijing (#10). "We expect Chinese buying in [2018] to be on par with levels of 2017, unless something significant happens to change the investment environment,” said Law.
