Malaysia is still an attractive destination for Chinese property buyers and the top five favourite locations are Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Malacca, Kota Kinabalu and Shah Alam, reports New Straits Times (14 May 2020). Malaysia's lifestyle, retirement and educational facilities have motivated Chinese buyers to invest in Malaysian properties. "The Expat Insider 2019 survey revealed that expatriates in Malaysia are generally happy with the affordability of life in the country and they found it easy to settle in. The MM2H (Malaysia My Second Home) has been popular with Chinese citizens, who accounted for 30 per cent of the more than 42,000 applications approved between 2012 and 2018," said Juwai IQI executive chairman Georg Chmiel.
