The United States real estate industry is at a standstill due to the coronavirus. Chinese buyers have stopped purchasing commercial and residential properties in the US, reports Supchina (14 April 2020). However, US real estate remains a safe haven for investors. “Long term, I think the pandemic leaves intact the status of the U.S. as a safe-deposit market where it is wise to invest both for gains and for diversification as a hedge against bad events. If economic forecasts are right, and the U.S. has a sharp but short COVID-19 recession, then we expect Chinese acquisitions of U.S. real estate to return to trend,” said Georg Chmiel, the executive chairman of property portal Juwai IQI.
