Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced that New Zealand had become the first country in the world to contain the coronavirus pandemic successfully. Its friendly-business environments are also helping to garner investment interest, reports South China Morning Post (6 June 2020). New Zealand is topping the list for global firms seeking to expand and for people looking to emigrate. However, Ardern said she did not plan to introduce investments visas to help revive the coronavirus-hit economy. Migration to New Zealand peaked about three years ago with Chinese making up 12 per cent of arrivals. Georg Chmiel, executive chairman of real estate portal Juwai.com, said it was bad luck for Chinese buyers to have become visible in the market at the same time rock-bottom interest rates drove a boom in local investor transactions. "It's too soon to know what will ultimately happen, but we know of a handful of Chinese investors who are considering their options, and that's just in our network" said Chmiel.
