Melbourne is the most popular Australian city for Chinese property buyers, reports Singtao Daily (19 September 2017). According to the leading Chinese international property website Juwai.com, 40% of Chinese enquiries for Australian property in the first 7 months in 2017 were for properties in Melbourne, followed by Sydney (17.5%). “Enquiries for properties in Melbourne rose 13.3% compared to the same period last year, higher than the global growth of 8.7%. According to a recent research by Financial Times, 57% of Chinese investors expressed that they will increase their investments abroad in spite of capital control – 60% whom plan to invest in real estate,” said Jane Lu, Head of Australia for Juwai.com.
